How the numbers are produced

Factors are taken from the definitions that make them exact: the 1959 international yard and pound agreement (1 in = 2.54 cm, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg), the SI base units, and the legal definitions of US customary volume (1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L). Temperature uses the affine formulas °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15. Pages that involve a convention rather than a definition — fuel economy, blood glucose, binary storage units — say so explicitly.

How the pages are built

The whole site is generated from one structured dataset: categories, units, factors. That is why the pair pages, the table on each page and the value pages always agree, and why a correction propagates everywhere at once.
