Where these factors come from
Storage uses two ladders. The SI decimal ladder multiplies by 1000 (1 GB = 1000 MB); the IEC binary ladder multiplies by 1024 (1 GiB = 1024 MiB). Every page states which ladder it uses.

Common questions
Why does my 1 TB drive show as 931 GB?
Windows reports binary units: 1 TB decimal is 0.909 TiB, displayed as "931 GB". No space is missing — the units differ. This site labels decimal (GB) and binary (GiB) explicitly.
Are megabits and megabytes the same?
No — 8 bits to a byte. Network speeds in Mbps divide by 8 to get MB/s; the dedicated Mbps page works the example.
Which standard does this site use?
